It can feel like every major holiday comes with a different batch of candy your child just has to have. Sugar has the capacity to do real harm to a person’s teeth. Regular daily care matters – unfortunately, children are less aware of how sugar might be affecting their smiles. Starting dental visits for your child at a young age allows your dentist to educate them on proper brushing and flossing, and to discuss the importance of preventing cavities. Limiting your child’s sugar intake is important – especially since kids tend to be reluctant to practice moderation on their own. You can give their teeth additional protection by making sure their smiles undergo good, routine cleanings at home, and are cared for regularly during a routine dental exam. (more…)

Should I Be Worried About Tooth Loss In My Later Years?
Many people think of dentures as something needed by older adults. Should you be worried about the prospect of tooth loss in later years? If you want to keep your smile intact, it can help to recognize the major threats you face. The leading cause of tooth loss for adults is problems associated with gum disease. Gum disease in its advanced form cannot be cured, but it can be contained. Of course, if you recognize signs of periodontal health trouble, you can take action and stop the issue before it grows serious. Make sure you keep up with good care at home, and take advantage of regular dental cleanings, which can protect you from bacteria that can cause gum disease. (more…)

Fighting Tartar Is Important To Your Oral Health
The gathering of bacteria on your teeth can be a real threat to your oral health. Part of preventing dental trouble means keeping your teeth as clean as possible, and ridding yourself of bacteria and plaque, the filmy, sticky accumulation of bacteria, as well as removing food debris. Unfortunately, when you have tartar, you can find yourself dealing with a bacteria buildup that can resist your brushing and flossing efforts. Tartar carries a risk for creating problems like tooth decay and gum disease. Your hygienist can remove tartar during a professional teeth cleaning, part of the routine treatment you enjoy doing a dental checkup. (more…)
Why Do I Grind My Teeth When I Sleep?
It is hard to ignore symptoms that can develop when you begin to grind your teeth while you sleep. People who experience this as a habit are dealing with a condition known as bruxism. Bruxism sufferers will put significant force on their teeth and jaw joints through the night. Over time, this can lead to problems like TMJ dysfunction, and damage to teeth. There is no single root cause for bruxism. It could be a consequence of stress, or it could develop because of existing TMJ dysfunction. While the cause may not be immediately identifiable, there is a solution your dentist can provide. A special mouth guard provided by your dentist will keep your teeth safe while you sleep. (more…)

What To Do About The Effect Of Wear And Tear On Your Teeth
It can be hard to avoid a small buildup of wear and tear on our teeth. After all, the acts of biting and chewing food makes some stress necessary, and unavoidable. Unfortunately, the toll taken on your teeth by everyday actions can eventually lead to cosmetic concerns. Your teeth might look duller, or make you appear older. If you want to find a way to offset this effect, you may want to discuss cosmetic dental work. Your dentist can provide care that hides the presence of flaws in your smile. In cases where wear and tear are more significant, your dentist may recommend restorative dental work, so that your teeth have the protection they need. (more…)
Your Cavity Treatment Experience
A person’s experience undergoing a restorative dental treatment will vary, simply because not everyone will have the same type of treatment. If your cavity is smaller, you may only need a dental filling. This is the most conservative form of treatment, as your tooth outside the affected area will remain intact. Not everyone who comes in for care can benefit from this approach, because their tooth needs more involved care. If you have a cavity that has grown severe enough to start affecting the interior health of your tooth, a root canal will have to be performed. Once that is complete, a dental crown will have to be created and placed on your tooth in order to ensure it is supported. (more…)
