Quiz: What You Should Expect From Porcelain Veneers

If you want to make big changes to your smile, you should discuss what porcelain veneers can do for you with your dentist. Veneers are used to make serious changes to how you look, as they are capable of covering several flaws in one procedure. To place them, your dentist will first need to prepare your teeth to receive them. They will also take measurements so that your veneers are sure to fit. Once they have been crafted by a dental lab, your veneers will be sent to your dentist. You can return and have them placed – once they are bonded to your teeth, you will have a terrific smile to share. (more…)

What To Do About The Effect Of Wear And Tear On Your Teeth

It can be hard to avoid a small buildup of wear and tear on our teeth. After all, the acts of biting and chewing food makes some stress necessary, and unavoidable. Unfortunately, the toll taken on your teeth by everyday actions can eventually lead to cosmetic concerns. Your teeth might look duller, or make you appear older. If you want to find a way to offset this effect, you may want to discuss cosmetic dental work. Your dentist can provide care that hides the presence of flaws in your smile. In cases where wear and tear are more significant, your dentist may recommend restorative dental work, so that your teeth have the protection they need. (more…)

Your Cavity Treatment Experience

A person’s experience undergoing a restorative dental treatment will vary, simply because not everyone will have the same type of treatment. If your cavity is smaller, you may only need a dental filling. This is the most conservative form of treatment, as your tooth outside the affected area will remain intact. Not everyone who comes in for care can benefit from this approach, because their tooth needs more involved care. If you have a cavity that has grown severe enough to start affecting the interior health of your tooth, a root canal will have to be performed. Once that is complete, a dental crown will have to be created and placed on your tooth in order to ensure it is supported. (more…)

How Aging Can Affect A Person’s Oral Health Needs

Your dentist wants to make sure that no matter your age, you have a smile you look forward to showing off. The basic approach to oral care can be consistent – keep your teeth looking good, and avoid cavities. That being said, the particular challenges facing patients at different stages of life can differ. Children’s dentistry can put a special focus on education, as younger kids can require guidance to form good dental habits. When those habits are instilled, it can be easier for them to go on and enjoy better oral health as adults. As patients reach their senior years, changes in your dental and overall health can alter their needs. It is important to remember that regular dental exams can help control issues that occur at any age. (more…)

Acknowledging The Severity Of A Dental Emergency

Some consequences of a dental emergency are more apparent than others. A tooth that is chipped, cracked, or knocked out can create a powerful sense of urgency. However, an injury can be serious even if it does not cause physical effects that are this visible. If you have internal damage, you could suffer sustained discomfort until something is done. Ignoring pain after an injury, or ignoring pain that develops without an easily identifiable cause, can leave your tooth without important treatment. Take a potential dental emergency seriously. Your dentist will prioritize your treatment if you need emergency care, so that you have necessary care as soon as possible. (more…)

What Will Your Dentist Find During Your Next Checkup?

If you are not confident in your daily oral care, you may be nervous about your next dental exam. Will your dentist find a cavity? What happens if you have more than one? Will you be taken to task for poor periodontal health? Remember that your dentist’s goal is to make sure you enjoy a healthy smile. If you have problems that need to be addressed, they can provide care and guidance on how to eliminate threats, and help you regain your best level of oral health. It is worth noting that if you take care to keep your teeth in top shape at home, this does not mean you can feel free to skip appointments, as you still receive important benefits from your checkup and professional teeth cleaning. 3 Things You Should Know About Receiving A Dental Filling

It would not be fair to say that your dentist informing you that you need a dental filling should be called good news. That being said, it is worth noting that this is the most conservative cavity treatment. The degree of decay you ultimately suffer before you undergo a restorative dental treatment will inform how to best care for your tooth. A filling simply replaces the enamel lost to that cavity – if you ultimately need a dental crown, your tooth will be completely covered. You can also be relieved to know that a filling, thanks to its being made from composite resin, will not adversely affect your smile. (more…)
