Before you know it, your kids will be heading back to school, and suddenly your schedule will become a lot more hectic. Which is why we want to remind you that now is a great time to visit your Allen, TX, family dentist for your children’s back-to-school checkup and cleaning!
Get Ready for a New School Year
Once school starts, your kids will have a pretty full schedule, with extracurricular activities and more taking up a lot of time. Finding time to see the dentist could mean missing school or these events. But if you schedule a visit now, we can examine the smile and treat any issues we discover before the first day of school. When your children return, they’ll do so with a strong and healthy smile.
What Happens During Checkups and Cleanings?
During the checkup, our team will use advanced dental technology to carefully examine the smile and uncover any signs of trouble, such as a developing cavity, infected tooth, or gingivitis. We also make sure baby teeth are falling out on schedule, and that permanent teeth are arriving properly, to help limit the risk of dental misalignment. If we uncover any issues, we can treat them with dental fillings or custom crowns, often in only one visit.
The cleaning portion is vital too. Even if your kids brush and floss as they should. This doesn’t completely remove the harmful layers of plaque and tartar, layers that increase the risk of cavities and painful dental infections. Our team will use an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual device to gently remove all the buildup. Then we polish the teeth for a brighter appearance. This also helps fight bad breath and teeth stains, and helps your kids feel confident when they return to school.
Taking a Preventive Approach
We know that kids of all ages are at a high risk of tooth decay. But we also have preventive treatments to help protect their teeth. During each checkup, we will apply a fluoride gel to the teeth, which strengthens the outer enamel to make cavities less likely to develop. We also have dental sealants, a thin plastic coating we add to the rear teeth, the ones hard for kids to reach when they brush and floss. The layers prevent food from becoming stuck on or between them, lowering the risk of cavities. These sealants can last for up to ten years in some cases!
