We want our patients to enjoy good oral health, avoiding issues like tooth decay and even periodontal disease. To do so, we need to see you every six months for a dental exam. In today’s blog, your Allen, TX, dentist talks about how our team can safeguard smiles of all ages with our dental exams and cleanings.
When You Need a Dental Exam
As we mentioned above, we want our patients to undergo a routine dental exam every six months. If there is a high risk for periodontal issues, we may suggest a visit every three to four months. The serious oral health threats like tooth decay and gum disease don’t form overnight, so a visit every few months is a way to monitor the smile and take action to address these concerns in the early stages. You could also avoid them altogether! These visits are not just for adults, kids need a routine dental checkup every six months starting at around age two.
What Happens During Your Checkup
During your dental exam, you will sit down in an exam chair and our team will talk to you about your oral hygiene habits and possible risk factors for serious concerns. We then take clear images of your smile with digital x-rays and intraoral cameras, which use 90% less radiation and provide images instantly chairside, so you spend less time in the chair. Our team can walk you through the diagnostic process and help you understand the current state of your smile and what treatments we may need to conduct to keep your smile healthy and whole.
Cleaning Your Teeth
In the same visit, our team will also clean the teeth. Even if you brush and floss daily, this may not remove all plaque and tartar buildup. Without removal, these layers could increase the risk of cavities, gum disease, bad breath, and teeth stains. But with an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual tool, our team can gently and thoroughly remove all plaque and tartar from the teeth. The process only takes a few minutes to complete! We then polish the teeth for a brighter appearance and to make it more difficult for plaque and tartar to accumulate on the surfaces of your smile before your next visit.
If you have any questions about how our team will protect your smile with a six-month checkup and cleaning visit, or if you need to schedule your first visit of 2025, then contact our team.
