We recently looked at partial dentures, which can address complicated cases of tooth loss. But what if you have a more substantial case of tooth loss? In these situations, you may need a full set! Which is why in today’s blog, your Allen, TX, dentist talks about how we craft and design a complete set of lifelike dentures.
Designing a Dental Prosthetic
First, we want to make sure your denture will fit comfortably and offer a lifelike appearance. To do so, we will custom-make it based on detailed dental impressions. Instead of physical ones, we will gather digital images of your smile and combine them for a 3D computer impression. This allows us to design and craft the prosthetic in a lab setting with precision and accuracy. The denture will contain a full row of ceramic teeth set in an acrylic base. The base will be designed to look like gum tissue, and the ceramic will be color-matched to look natural. The material is also durable enough to handle daily bite forces. Your smile will look and function like a natural one.
Removable and Implant Secured
We will have two different options for your smile. With the removable one, the upper arch is held in place with a special adhesive, and the lower one will need natural suction. These will need to be removed for cleaning and soaking, and will need to be replaced every five to ten years as the shape of the jaw ridge changes and the fit needs to be adjusted. We could also insert multiple dental implants and connect a denture to them. The implant portions act as new roots and stimulate the growth of bone tissue to prevent changes to the jaw ridge, so the prosthetic can last for decades to come. They’re also fixed in place, never needing to be removed for maintenance, and never slipping when you eat or drink. We will examine your smile and let you know which is best for you!
Protecting Your New Smile
Our team will provide detailed care instructions to help manage gum disease and other factors that could threaten your new smile. We also want you to take proper care of your prosthetic so it can last and continue to provide a full and functional smile.
