Detailed Dental Examinations
Routine examinations are the cornerstone of your dental healthcare, and involve a visual inspection by your dentist as well as the occasional use of advanced imaging technology. Also known as a checkup, a regular dental exam will either prove that your smile is still strong and healthy, or reveal an issue that you were not aware of so that we can address it.
What You Can Expect
For patients of all ages, dental examinations and dental cleanings should be scheduled no more than six months apart (with the exception of young children under the age of two). Fortunately, both your examination and cleaning are typically performed during the same appointment.
As part of your examination, your dentist may ask questions regarding your oral hygiene habits since your last visit, and suggest ways to improve your at-home dental hygiene routine. If the visual inspection reveals a cause for concern, or if your records need to be updated, then your dentist may also take a series of digital X-rays for a clearer picture of your teeth and oral structures. An intraoral camera can also capture high-resolution images of hard-to-see oral tissues for a more accurate diagnosis. The dentist will also perform an oral cancer screening during each visit.
Depending on the results of your examination, Dr. Torrens-Parker or Dr. Lizardi may recommend further cosmetic or restorative treatment, or simply schedule your next exam and cleaning if your smile receives a clean bill of health.
