Do you ever pass the time wondering about how to fix your tooth blemish? If you’re dealing with a chip, small crack, stain, or other minor esthetic issue, you very well may want to improve the problem (but you might not know which cosmetic treatment is right for you). In general, when a patient is seeking a solution that will cover up, add tissue to, or replace missing tissue for cosmetic purposes, dental bonding is a wonderful fit. Allow us to answer some common questions, so you know what to make of bonding.
Questions and Answers: Bonding
Question: What type of tissue loss can I replace with dental bonding?
Answer: We can only replace missing tissue with bonding if the problem is esthetic in nature (which means it is only a visual concern, which doesn’t hurt your oral health in any way). For instance, we may replace missing tissue if you have chipped a tooth.
Question: Will you ever suggest dental bonding if I need additional tissue but I haven’t suffered any type of damage?
Answer: Yes! Let’s say you are unhappy with a small space between two of your teeth but you do not need braces. Perhaps one tooth is shorter than those that surround it. In these instances, we may offer bonding to create a smile that looks more consistent.
Question: So, how does dental bonding work as a “cover up” for problems?
Answer: When we bond your tooth, we use a color-customizable material called composite. We can cover a stain by matching the composite to your tooth and painting it on – or we can brighten an entire stained tooth with a careful color selection.
